IN RE: State of Ohio vs. NICHOLAS TIMOTHY CSEHI
Case Number 2022 CR 00072

The Office of Colleen M. O’Toole, Ashtabula County Prosecutor, Chief Assistant Prosecutor, Dawn Cantalamessa and Assistant Prosecutor Gene Barrett have obtained a guilty verdict on June 7, 2023.

On February 1, 2022, the defendant shot and killed Randall Cohen after an argument started in the house at 508 Myrtle Ave, Ashtabula, Ohio. The argument led outside where the defendant then got into his vehicle retrieved his gun, loaded it and shot at the victim five (5) times, hitting him in three (3) locations. The lethal shot went through the victim’s chest severing his right lung and spinal cord and ultimately causing his death.

The Jury Trial began on June 5, 2023 where defendant argued self-defense during the trial, however the prosecution was able to prove that it was not self-defense, and he was found guilty of murder beyond a reasonable doubt.

On June 7, 2023 after a short deliberation, the jury came back with a Guilty verdict on:

§2903.02(A), 2903.02(D), 2929.02(B): Murder UF Firearm Specification – 3 year 2941.145(A)

The defendant will serve a sentence of eighteen (18) years to life imprisonment.

Thank you to the Ashtabula Police Department and my staff for all of their hard work.
